Uji Handoko Eko Saputro a.k.a Hahan creates works characterized by an ongoing tussle between ‘high art’ and ‘low art’, blurring realism with decoration. His works illustrate a point of contact that exists between urbanization and agrarianism or between the local and the global that both critique and admit complicity with the structures and mechanisms of the commercial art world. Themes of rejection and success are present throughout his practice, which spans painting, sculpture, drawing and printmaking. These works offer an insight into the psyche of a post-boom South-East Asian artist navigating the complexities and challenges of an expanding global art world. Based on his grounded interest in the realms of value, time and speculations, he lays his nonpareil craft by showing ametaphorical atmosphere in a satirical, humorous manner. In recent years, he focuses on displaying art with the concept that emphasizes on the interaction with the spectators and associates it with the development of art in global as well as its society. He is the founding member of Ace House Collective, an artist collective founded in 2011 in Yogyakarta that is active in the field of youth-pop culture and that emphasizes the exploratory approach both in theory and practice, conceptually and contextually, as well as finding new possibilities on the visual art perspectives.

Hahan graduated from the Indonesia Institute of the Arts, Yogyakarta, majoring in Printmaking. His most recent solo exhibitions include Speculative Entertainment No. 2 at Darren Knight Gallery, Sydney (2020); Wall Street Gymnastics at ROH Projects, Jakarta (2018), and Sauce for Contemporary Art Problems at Equator Art Projects, Singapore (2016). He has participated in numerous group exhibitions in Indonesia and abroad, such as Contemporary Worlds: Indonesia (2019) at National Gallery of Australia, Canberra, the inaugural NGV Triennial (2017) in Melbourne and the 2012 edition of Asia Pacific Triennial in Brisbane, Australia. His works have been collected by the Queensland Art Gallery of Modern Art, Brisbane, the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV), Melbourne, the National Gallery of Australia (NGA), Canberra, and the Art Gallery of New South Wales (AGNSW), Sydney, Australia.
