Cut | ROH

ROH is pleased to present Cut, a solo presentation of Davy Linggar at Paris Internationale 2022.

Situated inside Nadar’s old Parisian photography studio, Linggar will exhibit a number of works, including paintings, drawings, photographs, and a video work presented dispersed on two opposite walls.

Linggar’s paintings depict artificial, man-made structures that attempt in some ways to mimic their surrounding natural environments. These works are placed in relation to paintings and drawings which are much more personal, intimate settings that relate to domestic, more quotidian circumstances. Linggar also shows a video work of a clock pendulum moving in different speeds as if time is changing throughout the presentation in an elastic manner.

As opposed to developing a more rigid series of works with clearly delineated thematic explorations, Linggar instead considers the presentations of his work to act as an attempt to further develop and build upon his own aesthetic lexicon.

Davy Linggar is a celebrated Indonesian artist who works primarily through the mediums of photography and painting. There is a substantial breadth to his practice in his investigation of the things that constitute an image and its interrelatedness to perception, memory, form, feeling, and experience. His acute sensibilities are then translated into a diverse array of possibilities – be it through moving images, photographs, paintings, or drawings. In establishing a distinctive aesthetic vernacular, Linggar engages with and through architecture, popular culture, fashion, and nature. He deftly negotiates, and finds balance, between many different forms of energies and forces.
